Overview of Microsoft AD RMS

Active Directory Rights Management Services enhances your organization's security strategy by safeguarding documents through Information Rights Management (IRM).

Through IRM policies, AD RMS allows individuals and administrators to set access permissions for documents, workbooks, and presentations. This prevents unauthorized individuals from printing, forwarding, or copying sensitive information. When IRM restricts permissions for a file, these restrictions remain in place regardless of the file location because the permissions are embedded within the document itself.

AD RMS and IRM enable individuals to enforce their preferences regarding the handling of personal or private information. Additionally, they help organizations to enforce corporate policies related to the control and distribution of confidential or proprietary information.
