Secure printing

Encrypted File Transport

2min

The KMES Series 3 and Excrypt Touch provide a secure way to store, transport, and print encrypted files.

This guide is written for the 6.1.x KMES Application branch.

Overview of the components and their functions

The following components are involved in the File Encryption and Excrypt Touch encrypted file transport process:

  • The KMES Series 3 mounts to an SFTP or CIFS share and monitors it, looking for files that meet specific criteria.
  • You can upload files to the SFTP or CIFS share. If the uploaded files meet the criteria set on the KMES, the KMES encrypts those files, optionally deleting the unencrypted version of the file, then stores the encrypted file in a data partition on the KMES.
  • The Excrypt Touch establishes a secure connection with the KMES Series 3 and can download encrypted files for viewing or printing.
  • You can then take the Excrypt Touch to a printer that is housed in a secure facility, connect to the web server running on the printer, and print encrypted files.

This process enables files to remain in an encrypted state from the moment you upload them to an SFTP or CIFS share until you print them in a secure facility.
