# Generic Futurex PKCS #11

> Guides configuration of HSMs with Futurex PKCS #11 libraries.

This guide explains how to connect an application to an Excrypt HSM (formerly Vectera Plus) through the Futurex PKCS #11 library (FXPKCS11). Use it for any application that supports PKCS #11 and doesn't have its own Futurex integration guide.

You complete the following tasks:

1. [Check the prerequisites](/Integrations/HSM/Generic/Generic_Futurex_PKCS_11/Before_you_start.md).
2. Install the client software on the computer that runs the application and on the workstation that you use to configure the HSM:

3. [Configure the HSM](/Integrations/HSM/Generic/Generic_Futurex_PKCS_11/Configure_the_Vectera_Plus/Configure_the_Vectera_Plus.md): load major keys, create an application partition and identity for the application, and configure TLS.
4. [Edit the Futurex PKCS #11 configuration file](/Integrations/HSM/Generic/Generic_Futurex_PKCS_11/Edit_the_Futurex_PKCS_11_configuration_file.md) and verify the connection.

## Guardian Series 3

If a Guardian Series 3 manages your HSMs, you can complete most of the HSM configuration from the Guardian.
